Frequently asked questions about the reopening of the glencoe fitness center

Will I be charged my membership fee?

Fitness Center members have three options for their membership that must be completed by July 3 at 3 PM: 

  • Activate their membership on July 6.

  • Keep their membership on hold until August 1.

  • Keep their membership on hold until September 1.  

Members should use this form or call the Park District at (847) 835-3030 to notify staff of their decision. The default setting is to resume memberships on July 6.  

 

Can I put my membership on hold?

All Fitness Center members are eligible to put their memberships on hold until August 1 or September 1 without charge. Beginning September 1, all fitness center memberships will resume as scheduled based on their membership agreement. This will be re-evaluated based on current state guidelines.

 

Can I cancel my membership?

Fitness Center members are responsible for the length of their membership agreement. All fitness center memberships are 12 months in length. Membership cancelation requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. 

 

How can I reserve a time slot at the fitness center to workout?

There are two ways members can reserve a time slot:

  • Option #1 Reserve a time slot online here: Book a time slot. Please enter your member name in the Purpose box.

  • Option #2 Call the Takiff Center at (847) 835-3030. Takiff is staffed Monday-Friday from 9 AM-5 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 7 AM-12 PM.

Can I reserve more than one spot a day to work out?

At this time, you can only reserve one spot a day. 


What are the hours the fitness center will be open?

We have shortened hours based on member feedback, a reduction in member usage, and to offset the significant operations costs from our new safety protocols. We will be open:

  • Monday-Friday - 5:30 AM-6:30 PM

  • Saturday/Sunday - 7 AM-2 PM

 

What are the time slots available for me to sign up for?

Based on member feedback, we have gone with 60-minute time slots. Below are the time slots available per day.

  • Monday-Friday - 5:30 AM-6:30 PM: There are nine (9) 60-minute time slots available per weekday.

    5:30-6:30 AM, 7-8 AM, 8:30-9:30 AM, 10-11 AM, 11:30 AM-12:30 PM, 1-2 PM, 2:30-3:30 PM, 4-5 PM, 5:30-6:30 PM


  • Saturday/Sunday -7 AM-2 PM: There are six (6) 60-minute time slots available per day.

    7-8 AM, 8:30-9:30 AM, 10-11 AM, 11:30 AM-12:30 PM, 1-2 PM

 

What if I want to sign up with a family member?

Both family members will need to reserve one of the time slots available. Please just make sure to put the name of each member in the Purpose box in your online reservation or let the Takiff Center know when reserving your time slot.

 

Do I have to arrive at the exact time of my reservation? What I come late?

You don’t have to arrive right when your reservation begins, but  are required to leave the Fitness Center at the end of your allotted time.. For instance, if your reserved time is 10-11 AM and you only want to work out for 30 minutes, you may come at 10:30 AM and leave at the designated time of 11 AM.

 

Can I arrive early for my reservation?

No, you will not be allowed in the Fitness Center.

 

Do I need to wear a mask while exercising? When I come into the building? 

Masks do not need to be worn while exercising. You will need a mask to enter Takiff. We suggest you wear a mask when moving to different areas within the Fitness Center.

 

Will there be a screening process once you arrive at Takiff?

We will ask screening questions, but we will not be taking temperatures. 

 

What other safety measures do you have in place?

Your safety with exercising is very important to us. We have implemented the following new safety protocols:

  • We have reduced our capacity to less than 50% of normal occupancy. Limited to 5 total members per time slot.

  • We have installed shield guards between equipment.

  • Full cleaning of the fitness center every hour.

  • Additional hand sanitizer stations.

  • Use of masks while not exercising.  

 

Can I walk-in at any time to use the fitness center?

Based on the State of Illinois guidelines, we recommend that you do not walk-in. In order to guarantee your time slot, please make a reservation in advance. Book a time slot online or call the Takiff Center at (847) 835-3030 to reserve a spot. Reservations can be made up to two hours before a time slot.

How many people will be allowed in the Fitness Center at one time?

There will be a maximum of five (5) members allowed in the Fitness Center per time slot. This is less than the state’s guidelines of 50% of our maximum occupancy.

 

How will the Fitness Center equipment be cleaned?

There will be 30 minutes between each one-hour time slot when Takiff staff will clean and sanitize all equipment per CDC guidelines. Members should also wipe down equipment before and after each use.

 

Will showers and locker rooms be open?

The showers and locker rooms will be open. We recommended that you come to the Fitness Center in your workout attire and limit personal belongings.

 

Will there be a towel service?

There will be a sweat towel service only. If you plan to use the showers, you will need to bring your own bath towel.

 

I am not a member. Can I join?

Yes. We are accepting new members at this time. Call the Takiff Center at (847) 835-3030 for more information.

 

Can I drop-in and pay a daily fee?

In accordance with state guidelines, we cannot allow drop-ins at the Fitness Center.

 

Can I use the gymnasium?

At this time, we are not offering an open gym to the public or Fitness Center members. This may change at a later date.

 

What can I do to make visiting the Fitness Center easy?

We ask you do the following:

  • Make a reservation in advance
  • Arrive on time and be prepared to leave on time
  • Please limit your personal belongings.
  • Wipe the equipment before and after you use it.
  • Please return your towel to the front desk when leaving.
